Student voices on the excursion in year 10
I found…
… the tour was interesting and it was bad to see what people were going through at the time.
… the excursion is very interesting. The memorial was very impressive and the exhibition and guided tour gave a little insight into what was then life in this concentration camp. The tour was very well done and informative. […] I really liked it.
… The stay is very informative and emotional. The event took me away, but I also learned a lot.
… it is very impressive.
… It was very interesting to see how people had it back then, it made you think. You now know how good you actually have it. The only stupid thing was the weather.
… very impressive, especially the House of Remembrance. The weather was very suitable, because you could imagine it a little better.
… the excursion was very good, because it was easier to put yourself in the people’s shoes.
…, it was an interesting experience that everyone must have had at least once. I personally would have liked to have had some more time there.
At some points during the visit, people were very depressed.
The tour was pretty perfect for me […] My impression of the whole thing was very intense. I was able to empathize very well with the situation of a prisoner and even considered what I would have done in their place, for example at the canal I felt really uncomfortable when the woman told about what could happen to the prisoners. The weather also had a big impact on my perception because I couldn’t cope well with the cold and was able to put myself in a better position for the inmates [who only had a thin prison shirt instead of my winter jacket.]
The visit to the Neuengamme concentration camp was very impressive, but also overwhelming. It was a shame that there was not enough time to cover the entire main exhibition.
The trip made a lot of sense in my eyes, it brought this serious topic closer to you.
